| Dear Abby "CERTAIN DEATH, NOT FREEDOM, FOLLOWS THE WINGS OF A DOVE" The purpose of this letter is about the comments published on April 28th, 2008 from “Dear Abby: "certain death follows the wings of a dove” It was said the doves will die after they are released. She asked a “docent at a local zoo” about it and he agreed. Abby did not do any research on this business. Just published a very damaging letter to this industry nationwide. My Name is Tomas Quiñonez. I’m the owner of White Dove Release Company, LLC www.WhiteDoveReleaseCompany.Com located in Loveland, Colorado. This letter is concerning the safety and identity of "doves" that are released at weddings, funerals, and other special events. Doves and Pigeons belong to the Columbidae Family. The Ringneck Dove, Ring Dove, or Barbary Dove, (Streptopelia risoria), is a small domestic the kind you buy at the local pet store. The Rock Dove or Rock Pigeon (Columba Livia) comes in many different breeds, and the one breed we as people who release doves use is the White Homing Pigeon which is very similar to a White Dove. The White Rock Doves (homing pigeons) are bigger and stronger with ability to return home and is the only breed that should be used. They are trained to return home. Most companies have a Release Policy by which they release the White Homing Pigeons to protect them. We hope that we can get the right information to people so that Ringneck Doves from the pet store doves aren't released. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions. Tomas Quiñonez |
